History

After working in the electrical construction industry for over 25 years, Juan Candeleria developed a passion for the business and aspired to have a small, family-operated company.  In May of 1992, Juan, and his children, Jacqueline, John, and Mark, started City Lights, Ltd.  Under their father’s guidance, they learned all the aspects of running the business.

The first corporate office and warehouse was located just southwest of the loop on Harrison Street in Chicago, Illinois. Juan’s extensive knowledge of electrical construction, Jacqueline’s accounting and estimating background, and John and Mark’s field experience proved to be a successful combination. Jacqueline managed all of the company functions, John assisted with estimating and project management, and Mark supervised work crews in the field. As a family owned and operated company, City Lights quickly earned a reputation for quality and reliable work.

As the company grew, Juan assembled a team of managers, consultants, and field personnel with extensive construction experience. Jacqueline became more knowledgeable of all aspects of the business and took leadership alongside Juan. Throughout the years, John and Mark also grew in their respective management roles.

Today, City Lights, Ltd. works out of offices and warehouse locations in Chicago Ridge, on 40th Street in Chicago, and a storage yard in North Chicago. In June of 2011, Juan Candelaria unexpectedly passed away and Jacqueline, John and Mark transitioned into the current owners. Jacqueline, President and majority owner, continues running the business with her father’s philosophy: an industry-leading contractor who is driven by a commitment and genuine concern for the needs of clients, employees, and community.
